  Q. How many lessons do I need before I take the practical test?  
  A. The government recommends about 40 hours plus a further 20 hours with a family member, however this can be different for each person and the average varies on the age group of the learner.  
     
  Q. What documents do I take with me to the test centre?  
  A. Both parts of the licence, paper counterpart with photo ID. It is recommended to bring the appointment letter.  
     
  Q. How long do I have to pass my practical test after I pass the theory test?  
  A. Up to two years from the pass date.  
     
  Q. How do I get my provisional licence?  
  A. You must complete driving licence application and photo card application form D1 (available from most post offices) and the appropriate fee. The new D1 form, will have an area in the bottom left corner for you to attach your photograph.  
     
  Q. Do I have to pass the theory test before I can apply for the practical test?  
  A. Yes, you will be asked for proof of passing the theory test.
